Joss Whedon to direct ‘Batgirl’

Wow! Batgirl is getting her own solo movie! And guess who will be writing, directing and producing our hero Joss Whedon. Under Wheldon’s leadership she will be jumping into the Warner Bros. DC Extended UniverseBatgirl is one of the most popular superheroes in the world, but has never gotten her own movie. The project will also feature other characters from the world of Gotham. This will be the second movie form Warner Bros. / DC Comics that will feature a female lead after Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman which is released in June. Entertainment Weekly reports that Whedon’s Batgirl movie will indeed focus on Barbara Gordon and draw inspiration from The New 52, DC’s recent run of revamped classic comic book characters that kicked off in 2011.

Whedon will be jumping from the Marvel Cinematic Universe over to DC Extended Universe, having written and directed The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron for Marvel. It was rumored that both Avengers movies were very stressful experiences for him and he was under a lot of pressure and that he needed a break. I can see this Batgirl project being very good for him and very good for Warner Bros.

Joss Whedon is well know for creating the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, Firefly, Dollhouse, and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

We will keep you updated on GeekDevil with any future news and casting on this Batgirl project.
