‘Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle’ Trailer and Poster

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle. The film looks like The Breakfast Club meets Tron in a slight twist on the original Jumanji movie. The film is about four school kids who during their time in detention come across a old retro video game system with a video game called Jumanji. When they begin to play this game they have to select their avatar characters, then they are digitally sucked in to the game. Once there they take on the appearance of the characters / avatars that they selected. These avatars of course are played by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black.

I’m not sure about the video game twist as I loved the original movie with the board game. But I will hold judgement till I see this movie. It looks like the movie will poke fun at classic video game conventions similar to what we have seen in Wreck-It Ralph. Going by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s social media it looks like they had a lot of fun on set making this and hopefully that will come through in the final cut of the movie.

The film is set for release on 20th December 2017.

Here’s the official synopsis for Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle:

When four high-school kids discover an old video game console with a game they’ve never heard of – Jumanji – they are immediately drawn into the game’s jungle setting, literally becoming the avatars they chose: gamer Spencer becomes a brawny adventurer (Dwayne Johnson); football jock Fridge loses (in his words) “the top two feet of his body” and becomes an Einstein (Kevin Hart); popular girl Bethany becomes a middle-aged male professor (Jack Black); and wallflower Martha becomes a badass warrior (Karen Gillan). What they discover is that you don’t just play Jumanji – you must survive it. To beat the game and return to the real world, they’ll have to go on the most dangerous adventure of their lives, discover what Alan Parrish left 20 years ago, and change the way they think about themselves – or they’ll be stuck in the game forever…
