Wow it really is the resurrection of Mel Gibson’s career. The Suicide Squad film was a mixed bag and generally received negative reviews but it seems Warner Bros. are pushing forward with the sequel David Ayer is working on the all female-led spinoff film Gotham City Sirens so Warner Bros. has reportedly turned to Mel Gibson to take the directors chair for the upcoming Suicide Squad 2.
According to THR (TheHollywoodReporter.com) they are reporting that Gibson is now mulling over the possibility of directing the sequel.
Gibson is simply being looked at by Warner Bors. and it was confirmed by him recently. But everything is at a early stage. THR sources are saying that Gibson is familiarizing himself with the material.
Mel Gibson recently received an Oscar nomination for his work on the World War II film Hacksaw Ridge and it has resurrected his career and his value in Hollywoood and now he seems to be getting offers from studios to direct and star. It was recently reported he was in talks to join Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg for Paramount’s Daddy’s Home 2.
I think Mel Gibson is a very talented director and can be very gritty with his movies and won’t shun away from violence. Which would work great for a Suicide Squad sequel. But I don’t think he has passion for the source material and was very critical of the comic book movie genre only a few months ago.
So we will have to wait and see how this will play out.
